When you are constructing your character for an online gaming environment, there are a few things to consider about creation that may be different from the way you create a character for table top environments. Consider that this character's development depends greatly on interaction with other characters in the game.
You will not have a Storyteller to direct you through a system of trials and combats and impossible situations you have to solve, instead these situations are created by others. With that in mind, you should create a character that can integrate into existing storylines.
Also keep in mind that your character did not spontaneously pop into existence the moment we approve it. Try not to create a character that is centered around a discipline or ability. Discipline restrictions (max 3 dots at creation) can be limiting, but all you need to do is imagine how your character was before it had Protean 5, or Dominate 5. Likely you were not embraced with that high of a discipline level, and now it becomes something to work toward.Step 1: Choose your Clan
Before we even get started filling in dots and stuff, you need to get your own
character sheet(templates can be found on the site, in the back of any White Wolf books, or on the White
Wolf Homepage). Each clan has its own strengths and weakness, they also
have their own personality stereotypes, so you will want to pick a clan that
matches your characters personality.
Step 2: Character Concept
Alright, now you have your charctersheet, and we're ready to move on. The next
step is to choose your character's concept. The concept of your character is
what he or she was before the embrace.
In Example: Basketball Star, Punk, Goth, Pimp, Prostitute, Fake Rapper.
Step 4: Nature and Demeanor
Now its time to choose your character's Nature and Demeanor, these are commonly
referred to as Archetypes.
Your Nature is what you are (your true self),
your Demeanor is what you are going to let everyone else see you as (your facade,
so to speak).
In Example: Nature: Manipulator, Demeanor: Confidant
Step5: Haven
Your haven is your your safe place. Where you go to rest your head, get away
from the sun or other things out to get you. It could be anything from a the
basement of a night club, to a sewer, to a mansion.
In Example: Mansion on the Western Side of the City
Step 6: Name and Player
Name your character, and add yourself as the player. Heh, talk about hard work.
In Example: Calvin Brohabb, player: Johnathan Rodman
Step 7: Chronicle
This is the name of the campaign you are playing your character in.
In Example: Las Vegas by Night, Vampychat
Now that we have that all down on our character sheet. I'm going to guide you
through the process of placing dots to put that character you have thought up
onto paper. I will be using the basic Camarilla/Independent creation stats from
the REVISED EDITION VAMPIRE: THE MASQUERADE for the walk through steps on character
creation.
Remember, dots don't make the character.
