Houses of Darkness
The seven Celestial Houses created by God defined the duties and the powers of each angel within them, refining their individual natures and shaping their identity within a rigidly structured hierarchy. There was no allowance for promotion or demotion. The duties of each angel never varied, and the Elohim were content in their duties as the cosmos took shape, expecting nothing more than what the Creator gave them.
When the rebel angels broke from their brethren, their identity as members of a specific House remained as strong as ever, and in short order, the fallen re-established the hierarchy that had been lost, restoring the sense of focus and function that the angels craved. Forcing the fallen to reject any ties to their House, no matter how desperate the situation, was simply inconceivable.
Namaru: The Devils
Once belonging to the House of the Dawn and serving as God’s heralds to the rest of the heavenly host, the Devils were the standard bearers of the Creator’s will and the champions of humanity. Now they use their charisma and powers of persuasion to twist mortal and immortal minds alike to serve their own agendas.
The Devils, or Namaru, were of the highest house of angels. During the Age of Wrath the Namaru acted as leaders. The Namaru specialize in social skills. The lores that are associated with devils are the lores of celestials, flame, and radiance. Lucifer belonged to this house, and they made up the largest contingent of rebel angels.
Asharu: The Scourges
These former angels of the firmament were given the task of directing the winds and carrying the life-giving breath of God to those whom the Creator deemed worthy. Now the Scourges are the bearers of plague and pestilence, their passage swift and unseen but their punishment cruel and lingering. Depending on their whim, they can heal or poison with a touch.
The Scourges, or Asharu, were once guardian angels. They liked the humans, but their closeness to humanity drove them mad. When Lucifer started the rebellion they were the most followers in numbers, second only to his own house. Instead of being brave fighters, they made better spies. Now that they are free they find great respect, being able to heal with the right hand and harm with the left.
Annunaki: The Malefactors
The Malefactors are the artisans among the fallen, once given charge of the earth and all that lies within it. These demons are cunning, patient and thoughtful, using their powers of creation to turn the most mundane items into wondrous gifts that ultimately corrupt the recipient.
The Malefactors, or Anunnaki, were angels of the forge, of tools, and of the earth, and were to guide humans in mastering these skills. But the humans were unable to follow the angels' instructions, and from this frustration they came to despise their mentors, much to the angels' confusion. When the War in Heaven broke out, they became rebels mainly because of their hatred for the humans they once loved: hatred against God for not allowing them to help the humans directly; and because they felt the others loved them. Once sentenced to Hell, they were without pure earth and fire and began to feel empty. Now free, they've found the humans have learned to use tools and manipulate the earth, but have (as the Anunnaki see it) destroyed the planet in the process. These demons now see their goal as the destruction of the human race, so that the planet might be healed.
Neberu: The Fiends
The Fiends directed the course of the sun, moon and stars. They were the bearers of the complex patterns that governed the tides, seasons and portents of Heaven. Where they were once oracles dispensing wisdom and warnings, they are now the masters of nightmares and curses.
The Fiends, or Neberu, had the ability to sense the future. The Neberu called Ahrimal foresaw the War in Heaven, so many Neberu turned from God to Lucifer's side. Because of them, Lucifer won many early battles, but their helpfulness decreased as the war went on. When God cast the rebels to Hell, the Neberu were put in their own special hell. When they emerged from Hell they had recovered a fraction of both their powers and their sanity.
Lammasu: The Defilers
The Defilers are seducers, ever-changing, always alluring. They once held dominion over the oceans, and can alter their appearance like quicksilver, taking the form of a victim’s greatest desire. They can manipulate not only their bodies, but others’ as well, granting glorious beauty in place of ugliness, but always at a price.
The Defilers, or Lammasu, were given dominion over the seas, and were meant to inspire humanity through the longings of both races. Before the War in Heaven, they loved the humans, but the Lammasu were the first of the houses to succumb to Hell. In the timeframe of the game, the Lammasu fulfill such desires as ruining families, destroying businesses, and toppling governments.
Rabisu: The Devourers
Devourers are the warriors among the fallen, given charge of the beasts of the wilderness and infused with the nature of the predator. They are fierce and impulsive by course, favoring action over long-winded discussion. They incite, ravage, annihilate and move on.
The Devourers, or Rabisu, are the House of the Wild. The creation of humanity was a huge thorn in their sides. They were to care for the animals, but couldn't interact with humanity. When the war broke out, the house was divided. Those who followed Lucifer felt there was no way to fulfill their job. Once in Hell they reverted to their most primal instincts and hatred for humanity. Now free from Hell, they are here on Earth to destroy humans.
Halaku: The Slayers
After God created man and woman he returned to Heaven, his labors complete – leaving death and decay to follow in his wake. The Slayers were the angels of mortality, tending to those who had passed. Now they’re masters of spirit who can raise ghosts, reap souls from living bodies or trap them in vessels of their infernal choosing.
The Slayers, or Halaku, were once angels of death. They were shunned by the other angels before the war. When Lucifer started his rebellion they joined him, as he promised them that they would be able to explain to humanity the reason that things they loved had to die.
